Character Name: Hopeless Savage (Yes, it's a stage name but if you were born Matilda Swanson, wouldn't you use your stage name all the time?)
Date & Place of Birth: July 4, 1982; New Orleans, Louisiana
Character Type: Lukoi
Character Occupation & Skills: Hopeless isn't employed in the conventional sense. She works evenings when she can get the work. Her preference is in fronting her goth-meets-punk-meets-rock cover band. Oh, they have their own music, it just isn't popular enough to score a lot of gigs. Sometimes she rounds out her income with dancing of one form or another. Go-go dancing to stripping. As Eranthe of the Frenzy, she's hardly shy about nudity.
Hopeless never went to college and didn't graduate high school, although she does have her GED. She's streetwise enough and knows the bad parts of town like the back of her hand. Musically, she's actually quite skilled. She spends much of her downtime rewriting conventional songs into thrashier versions. Hopeless sings, plays a smattering of instruments, she prefers stringed instruments that can be plugged into amps, obviously. She dances well enough to make a living when her band fails to score big enough gigs, which is more often than not.
Abilities: Hopeless has been a werewolf since she was sixteen, about ten years now. As a werewolf, she has the standard suite of abilities. She can shift forms, heal most things except silver which heals almost human-slow. Hopeless has the preternatural strength from the lycanthropy although it's certainly nothing special. Looking at her, one would think she relies on speed but if Hopeless has anything above an average werewolf it actually lies in tenacity. The girl can take a beating, that's for sure.
Hopeless does have a little something special that has kept her in the Eranthe position in the Frenzy since she took it eight years ago. Hopeless has a real gift with the newly changed. Whether it's personality or something more mystical, she is a switch. She's dominant enough to provide stability to the submissives but submissive enough to serve the dominants. Hopeless can exert the force of her beast to hold a new werewolf to his or her form but she lacks either the strength or inclination to do that for established werewolves.
Appearance: Hopeless is deceptively delicate with the build of a ballerina. If a ballerina ever wore her hair dyed to colors never found in nature, silver piercings that change daily and raver-styled clothing. Hopeless has a liquid grace to her that doesn't conceal the coiled aggression in her movements. She walks like she's looking for a fight. Her features are fine-boned, almost classic. Naturally, she's a blond, although her hair has been every color under the sun, and she had the pale features to match. It helps that she sleeps through most of the day.
Hopeless favors layered tight tops with slogans from the 80's and baggy pants with usually at least a little reflective tape somewhere on them. She is rarely without a pair of steel toed boots and prefers shoes that give her a bit of a lift above the five foot two she stands in stockings.
Both Hopeless's transition form and her wolf form are smaller than the norm which she feels is completely unjustified. Her wolf form has dusty fur that is tipped in a light brown. If one knew nothing about wild animals, she might be mistaken for a coyote in the half-light although her chest is too broad and her face too lupine for most to make that mistake. In the transitional form, she barely tops six feet with the same rangy build of her full wolf form.
Personality & History: You ever notice how in any group of kids, there's this one scrawny kid that's all up in some guy's face twice his size? And you're always thinking that that kid is going to get his ass handed to him one of these days... That's Hopeless. She's a scrapper through and through. She talks a good game, especially to your average human when she know she has the advantage or if she's got a few of her friends standing behind her. In a one-on-one match, she's not interested in getting her butt kicked. Although it's happened more than a few times.
Hopeless has been in the system since she was a toddler. After an act of untimely violence took away her mother, and she never knew her daddy, Hopeless -- then Matilda Swanson -- was bounced around in foster care. With her white gold curls and her pretty, little face she never wanted for a new foster parent. Once they got her home, however, and found out just how little the personality matched the appearance, back into foster care she went. Every time it left Hopeless just a little angrier.
Once she made it into high school, she was a powder keg. Hopeless fell into a "bad crowd". Partying and drinking were just the tip of the iceburg. It wasn't long before Hopeless was spending more nights on the couches of sketchy older friends than she was at home with her most recent set of foster parents.
Shortly after her sixteenth birthday, the little crimes that her pack of hoodlum friends were involved in turned serious and they crossed the wrong group. Hopeless was unaware of the deeper dealings and has pieced together much after the fact. Apparently the ringleader of her group had gotten in with a few of the bikers that had left the Frenzy when Dumas took over. When the werewolves came after these punks, Hopeless was caught in the crossfire. Although savaged, she was the only person left alive when the clean-up crew was sent in to deal with the mess. Luckily for her, the werewolves that Dumas sent realized that she was clinging to life and she was taken in by the Frenzy.
She recovered quickly, and it was the Eros of the pack then that helped her find her feet in this new world. It was at his urging that she bothered to get her GED. Of all the werewolves in the pack, Hopeless had the deepest respect for this new mentor.
It took her a couple years to get used to all that this new life entailed but Hopeless found that she loved being a werewolf. Changing and all the strength and hardiness that came with it seemed to only enhance her lifestyle. Turning furry once a month was hardly a hardship for inheriting a few hundred people with whom she could claim kinship. She would never admit it but the Frenzy was the home that she'd always wanted.
It was an obvious progression for her to challenge for Eranthe once she turned eighteen. Even Hopeless didn't believe she'd actually win. That remains to date one of the only fights Hopeless has engaged in where it was one-on-one with no cheating of any sort. She won, but only by stubbornly continuing past a point most would have yielded.
What was even more was she was actually good at her new position in the pack. Hopeless has an unending well of patience with the newly turned. Once a werewolf knows his head from his tail, they're on their own and they are treated with Hopeless's usual brand of acerbic humor but until that time, Hopeless is there to help. She shifts seamlessly from mother, lover, friend, even antagonist, whatever is needed.
It could be argued that the acerbic, even biting wit that the werewolves receive from her when she is no longer needed is her last gift to them to get them out from under her wing and onto their own feet in the pack. Or it could just be that Hopeless has a nasty sense of humor and poor interpersonal skills.
Either way, Hopeless has been Eranthe since 2000 and her loyalty has been to the pack first and foremost. On a personal level, Hopeless didn't really care overmuch when Dumas wanted to push the pack members into hooking as her views on sex and love are so far skewed from the norm that it's almost comical. She has to be able to detach from sex to do what she does in the pack that it would hardly bother her for the Ulfric to tell her to go sleep with someone. That it bothered her pack mates did distress Hopeless and she began to resent Dumas then. When even those under her auspice, the newly changed began to feel the pressure, it infuriated Hopeless. She knew she didn't have the power to challenge for it but was quietly satisfied when Mariah won.
It was hard for her to watch members leave the pack, but there wasn't a question as to where Hopeless's loyalties lay. She's Frenzy, first and foremost.
These days, Hopeless has mellowed since her angry teen years. Although mellow for Hopeless is probably ten steps past the normal emotional range. She parties hard and fast. Hopeless spends most nights out prowling the town and days attending to the pack's needs. Her only downtime is for sleep and most nights she has a partner or two for that activity.
She's quick to temper and vents her feelings in an acerbic wit that can turn nasty when riled. Hopeless isn't the type to throw the first punch, but she'll hit you with a beer bottle when your attention is elsewhere. New wolves will see hints of the softer facets of her personality but that never lasts past when she's actually needed.
Hopeless doesn't try to keep the other wolves at arm's length, it's just that she's terribly bad at being the one who needs anything in a relationship, friendly or romantic. She still carries that baggage from her youth. So when she notices that need in herself, she tends to panic and just shove. It's a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy, unfortunately.
